Terms of use
Last updated November 4, 2026
These terms cover your use of Second Skillset (secondskillset.com), run by Tom Devine, based in the United Kingdom ("we" or "us"). By using the site or creating an account, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
How we handle your personal information is explained in our privacy policy: secondskillset.com/privacy
What Second Skillset is
Second Skillset is a practice site. Each lesson is a short work task done with an AI assistant, and your answers are graded as you go. Lesson 1 needs no account. Lesson 2 is free with an account.
Paid lessons aren't available yet. When they are, the price, billing and cancellation terms will be shown to you before you pay, and those terms will apply to your subscription alongside these.
Your account
- You must be 18 or over to create an account.
- Give us your real name and an email address you can receive mail at.
- An account is for one person. Don't share it or let others sign in as you.
- Keep your password safe. Tell us at tom@secondskillset.com if you think someone else has used your account.
Using the site fairly
Please don't:
- try to get answers, hints or hidden lesson content other than by playing the lessons;
- interfere with the grading, the points or the site's security, or try to reach other people's data;
- copy, scrape, resell or republish the lessons, or use automated tools to access the site;
- enter real client information, your employer's data, or anything confidential. The lessons never need it.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules, and we may reset points that were gained unfairly.
The lessons and grading
- All the businesses, figures and documents in the lessons are made up. Any resemblance to a real business is a coincidence.
- The assistant's replies in the free lessons are written in advance, and some contain deliberate mistakes for you to catch. Don't rely on them as accounting, tax, legal or other professional advice.
- Grading is automated and checks your answers against each lesson's checks. We work hard to make it fair, but it can be wrong. If you think a grade is wrong, tell us.
- Points and scores track your own practice. They have no cash value and aren't a professional qualification.
- The lessons don't currently earn CPE credit.
Our content
The lessons, text, designs and software on the site belong to us or the people who license them to us. You may use them for your own learning. You may not copy or share them for any other purpose without our written permission.
If you send us feedback, such as rating a hint or suggesting a fix, we may use it to improve the site without owing you anything.
Changes to the site
We're improving the site all the time. We may add, change or remove lessons and features. When a lesson's steps change, a lesson you're partway through may start again from the first step. Your completed lessons and their scores stay saved.
We aim to keep the site available, but we can't promise it will always be available or free of errors.
Ending your account
You can stop using the site at any time. To delete your account, email tom@secondskillset.com. We may close accounts that break these terms, or end the free service with reasonable notice.
Our responsibility to you
The free lessons are provided as they are. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that can't legally be limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you use the site as a consumer, nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.
Otherwise, as far as the law allows, we aren't responsible for losses that weren't foreseeable, or for business losses such as lost profits or lost data. Our total responsibility to you for anything relating to the site is limited to the amount you've paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or $100 if that is more.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the last change. If a change is significant, we'll email account holders before it takes effect. If you keep using the site after that, the new terms apply.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes go to its courts. If you live elsewhere, you may also have the right to bring a claim where you live under your local consumer law.
